07/06: 21st Century Lullaby

Symphony of cries that shook the sky,
Let sleep take you O sweetie before I end my lullaby,
Sleep before Bush invades our home,
And sets us with Saddam into a treason trial,
Let sleep take you O sugar before I end my lullaby,
Get unconscious or the next knock on the door,
Would bring in Bush with lust for the oil and eyes on our floor,
Let sleep take you O honey before I end my lullaby,
Force yourself in a midst of a soothing dream,
Or Bush will have us for 9/11 rage,
A holy war he fights, huh a loser’s try,
Let sleep take you O darling before I end my lullaby,
Now close your eyes or sweet mama would die,
I have heard Uncle Bush riding a bomber Stealth,
And guiding the ghostly Toma Hawk,
Would ‘bomb us into stone ages’ as he passes by,
For the love of Jesus kid you sleep,
The roses on Papa’s grave didn’t yet dry.

your poem does not translate into english. i'm sure its lovely in pakastani, and i'm sure your children sit and stare wide eyed as you sing yet another song of violence and hate. tell me, look into this innocent childs eyes and ask yourself, will i truelly rejoice when you here he has blown himself up to kill someone else? does this honor God?
becides, america does not bomb pakistan, even though your hiding o-sammi bin laudin, you know it, we know it.
perhaps if your culture stoped its perpetual cry of "I'M A VICTIM, I'M A VICTIM" while simaltaniously sending your children out to blow themselfs up to murder others, you might get some understanding from the west. as it is now we look at you and see rabid dog, and rabid dog set on killing us. and in america while you may feel bad for the tog, you also put it down without hesitation.

@ David:

I will let the author of this poem answer your comment himself in whatever manner he might want to, but a few comments of my own are below.

your poem does not translate into english.

I will leave that to individual taste and intellect. People who commented above before you seem to have a different opinion compared to you. Of course, you still have the freedom to form your own opinion and airing it to the world as you see fit.

i'm sure its lovely in pakastani, and i'm sure your children sit and stare wide eyed as you sing yet another song of violence and hate.

First things first; there is no language on this earth called "Pakistani" by itself. A simple Google search (I am sure you have heard of it) can tell you that the in order of popularity, the major languages spoken in Pakistan are Urdu, Punjabi, Pushto, Sindhi and Balochi.

Secondly, your seer abilities fail miserably since the person who wrote this poem is single and has never been married before. I don't know where you come from but here in Pakistan, marrying at such a young age is not the norm since the last many decades. It almost seems like.... paedophilia. If you are happy with that in your society, rock on!

Thirdly, if you would have read the poem with an unbiased mindset, you would have realized that it rightfully states the current situation of the world a a direct result of this so-called War On Terror. However, I do realize that it is difficult to swallow the truth when one is not on the good side. Even American think tanks have long been questioning the scope and validity of a "war on terror".

tell me, look into this innocent childs eyes and ask yourself, will i truelly rejoice when you here he has blown himself up to kill someone else? does this honor God?

No sane person will support suicide bombings or wasting innocent lives regardless of whether he is a Muslim, Christian or Jew, period!

Apparently, you are another of the stereotypical people who spend their days watching news on Fox, Sky, CNN or other similar channels. Assuming that your country is a major part of the coalition on the war on terror, do you enjoy looking into the eyes of the children (if they are your own or otherwise - with the high statistical figures pointing to a lack of child birth under wed lock in many Western countries you never know when you are dealing with a bastard, if you get my meaning) and telling them the brave tales of your soldiers killing innocent defenceless people? Does doing this honor your God?

While I respect the fact that people feel pride in their soldiers, it doesn't mean that what they are doing is all right. Guantanamo Bay is a very vivid example of this.

becides, america does not bomb pakistan, even though your hiding o-sammi bin laudin, you know it, we know it.

You are clearly not keeping up with the factual news. Just recently, a couple of American missiles fell into Pakistan. Intentional or not, they took the lives of many Pakistani citizens who weren't even connected in any way to this war. Causalities are painful unless it is collateral damage. I wonder what would happen if those same missiles fell in New York, Washington or some other major American cities, by mistake, of course. It gives you an entirely new perspective, doesn't it? And just an example of my claim:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20070624/wl_afp/afghanistanpakistanunrest

Ultimately, it is America that needs Pakistan more compared to how much Pakistan needs America.

Secondly, while this "O-Sammi bin Laudin" might be part of the cast of some low budget film in Hollywood, I doubt that a person with such a name exists any where on Earth. Now, if we are talking about Osama bin Laden, there is no proof to support your allegation of his presence in Pakistan. For all anyone knows, he is in Manhattan enjoying a cup of coffee at Starbucks. That is not out of the probable due to lax security standards.

perhaps if your culture stoped its perpetual cry of "I'M A VICTIM, I'M A VICTIM" while simaltaniously sending your children out to blow themselfs up to murder others, you might get some understanding from the west.

Do you even know what constitutes a "culture"? You need to see a mirror or else, merely read your comments again to realize who is screaming, "I AM A VICTIM". Last I checked, few, if any, of my non-existent children went to blow themselves up.

The other day I read that some follower of Judaism, went for a homicide bombing on a gay parade in Israel. Extremist Christians, Muslims and Jews are the biggest threats to peaceful co-existence in the current decade egged on by people like you.

I laugh at your childishness. You think calling names is an insult? Which grade are you still studying in? Your grammar in your comment is atrocious. It's no wonder that certain segments of America are so up in arms over immigrants and how children of Asian origin are leaving their American counterparts in the dust.

While I generally respect Americans and their views, I expect the same courtesy in return. If you do not have the capacity for mutual co-existence and respect, be prepared for whatever well deserved thing is dished out to you. You are a discredit to many hard working Americans who are just like many hard working Pakistanis who are peaceful and respectful of views and beliefs of other people.

David did that honor God when your fatherly BUSH blowed up tens of thousands of the people for the 9/11 plot that he played fooling your own people for the lust of oil.
and if i were to ask you that would it rejoice sending your 'innocent child' to bomb out people, your answer would have been YES because after being mutilated by such a holocaust you wouldnt have had enough options. you know what, you are the people who created suicide bombers, ask this yourself. you have snatched the prerogative to live and to think straight from these people. and its not your fault either, they are the think tanks of your country, people with gruesome capitalists ideology that would suck up aspiing countries for the lust of oil, money and power putting your youth on the jeopardy.
and if you know that Osama is here in Pakistan, dude act fast and use the ultra sophisticated "NASA's" high tech GPS and mug him down. what are you waiting for. another attack on your country and your president concocting up a new strategy to bomb people all over. see this is how your think tank works.
and what children are you talking about and so concerned, so being over protected for them. your country has the highest number of old age homes and the worst social structure. ever seen Jerry springer, you would rather die of embarassment than a suicide bomber from Afghanistan.
waiting for your RATIONAL reply.

Hi Asad,
Your reply to David was reasoned and reasonable, unlike his original comments. I agree with your assessment that extremists of any stripe, Christian, Jew, or Muslim are the real problem. From the illiterate rant of David, I assume he is a Chrsitian extremist - what we here call a fundamentalist.

Personally, I supported President Bush's call to invade Iraq. Not for oil, but rather because Saddam Hussein's actions before the war led many Americans (including me) to believe he was a threat to our country.

As a side note and as an economist for many years, I have to chuckle when people raise the red herring that the war is about oil. Oil is a commodity that when it enters the market goes to the highest bidder. Even if the extremists take over in Iraq, they will have to sell the oil to remain in power. If they sell it, we and many other countries will buy it.

Unfortunately, for all of us, Bush and his advisors failed to understand the culture of Iraq. It is this, more than anything else, that helped create the horrible conflict there today.

As for the poem itself, I suspect David was inadvertantly correct that it does not translate well into English. In my opinion, most poetry really only works in its original language.
